International Service-Learning Trip Ecuador: May 19th-29th, 2014
Is an Amazonian Fair Trade tea company based out of Peru and Ecuador. They started in 2009 when two college grads trekked their way down to South America and witnessed the immediate concern of indigenous communities whose environment, culture and health were being impacted by deforestation and lack of resources. After turning down a fullbright grant and job offer, founders, Tyler and Dan decided to create strategies and make a business planned for ways to help develop, empower and work with the precious community. Today, Runa supports over 2,000 farming families and employs over 40 people to help keep the native guyusa tea leaf, culture and preservation of the environment alive.
Students from Keene State College will be participating with the Runa Foundation to participate in service-learning activities as well as historical and cultural visits around the country. The purpose is to close the gap between students and producers with a further passion and understanding of the Fair Trade system.
Runa is sold on campus in Lloyd's cafe! Try out the product, learn their story and find our applications to go visit on the second student floor offices in the Student Center.
